This is the first lunge variation I teach after the basic split squat. This is a great movement because the step provides some extra range of motion so you can really hit the glutes. It also makes you learn how to decelerate your body, come to a stop, and return to a starting position. Very similar to most sporting events. Deceleration ability is critical to avoiding injury and creating quickness.
